I was so nervous until Sara called this morning to say that they were on their way home. He was a trooper! Graham Cracker loves her boy! I hope your ears are feeling much better.
Harry and I went to Hollywood Studios on Tuesday. Got into the first "American Idol Experience" show at 11 and loved it so much that we watched it again at 4 p.m. Three singers compete at each show, and the winner goes on to compete at the 7 p.m. finale. The day's winner (voted on by the audience) gets a "golden" ticket to be the first in line to try out at any American Idol audition. Talk about your fast pass!
Had dinner at the Brown Derby - fantastic as usual. Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas ate there on February 9...how is it that I NEVER get to see celebrities? Rats!
Going to Mikados in Melbourne tomorrow with Harry, Eunice, Jack, Carol and Charles. Carol and Charles have never been there but love Japanese food as much as the four of us do. Headed off downtown to see if I could get them fixed but no one carried my line of Joan Collins glasses. We stopped by Jack and Eunice's house to see if they had any Super Glue - no luck so we spent some time with them. Came home to find that we had some glue in the kitchen cabinet and Harry fixed them so well that I haven't had any trouble.
Just my luck!!!! There's a picture in the Florida Today paper showing all 7 American Idol winners at Hollywood Studios. They were there on Thursday for the soft opening of the American Idol Experience - I found out that Paula Abdul and Ryan Seacrest were also there! I could just kick myself for not fixing the glasses that morning and going on to Disney!!!!

Long time

It's been a while since I posted on here. Groundhog's Day (my birthday) has come and gone - 57 years - it doesn't seem that I'm that old some days, but other days it seems as if I'm WAY, WAY up there! I remember when I was 16 - I wanted to be older...my mom told me that I shouldn't wish my life away...now I know what she meant. Where did the time go? Have I used it wisely? The answer from me would be NO! My baby girl is 30 - where did that time go? I wish that I could get the years back from the time Sara was born until she got married. Boy, would I do things over again! I look at her and wish that I could have been the mom that she is to Caitie and Colin. I know that she loves me, but what will her memories be when I'm gone...will they be good or bad?
Caylee Anthony's public memorial service will be Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Orlando. The church holds over 5,000 - I wonder how many people will be there. Security will be tight...no purses, cameras, cell phones, etc. Everyone will have to go through a security thingy and the police will have the right to decide if you pose a risk and not let you in. I'd like to go. That little girl was precious - she deserves a memorial service. I can't stand to look at any footage of Casey Anthony and her attorneys. I know that you are presumed innocent until proven guilty, but in my mind she murdered her daughter.
Those two cutie-patootie children that are in the picture on my blog are my grandchildren (in case you didn't know.) I miss you Caitie and Colin! You make your graham cracker (Grammy) very happy.
Better end this on a happy note - it's suppose to be in the 70's tomorrow - no more 40's for Titusville! Yea!

Where everyone knows your name...

No, it's not the Cheers bar, but it's Steve's Diner! Harry and I love this place...everyone is soooo friendly...we ate there this morning for breakfast. Normally we eat there for lunch or supper, but we had finished going to yard sales and were HUNGRY! Yes, Sara, your dad actually went to some today! Finally saw April...she had changed to the morning shift because of her kids' school. There's Jackie, Lisa, Joyce and Alberta who agravate Harry to death...course he loves every minute of it. Oh, and don't let me forget Mr. Steve (that's what Caitie bug calls him) whose name is really John. The bug even has a t-shirt from Steve's...they always talk to her when she's down here. They even brought BEAR a high chair for him so he could sit at the table...now wouldn't you say that's going above and beyond your job as a waitress?

FINALLY!!!

The Delta IV Heavy finally lifted off tonight at 9:47 p.m! It was awesome to watch - you can see the launches from our balcony. It lifted off with nearly 2 million pounds of thrust which lit up the sky. After 3 glitches it was a go for the 1st launch of 2009 - btw, for those of you who want to know, this payload supports the military's national defense mission.
I love watching these rockets, but especially watching the shuttles. Any shuttle launch is a treat, but the ones that I love most are the ones that go up at night. Unbelievable! Next one is February 12.
Went to Steve's (my favorite diner) tonight for supper with Elmer and Margie Hamilton and Marci Workman They arrived today - will be spending two weeks down here in Barbara and Larry's old condo. We'll probably play lots of dominoes and euchre while they are here!
Speaking of Steve's - we're sitting at our table waiting on Lisa to take our order - very crowded tonight. Harry looks over at another table and tells me to look at the girl that's sitting there with her family. She dead on looked like Casey Anthony! Short hair, similar face, etc. and her daughter was just about the age of Caylee. Kind of freaky. I mentioned this to Lisa and she said that she had noticed the resemblance as well as several people that had seen her at Steve's before tonight. The gal needs to get a new 'do!

HAPPY 2009!

Goooooooo Gators! That was a great game last night - no, that was an awesome game! I thought that it would be a high scoring one, but realized in the first quarter that the win would probably be a close one. My boys outdid themselves - Tebow, Harvin, Pouncey twins, Demps and Black - what an interception! I LOVED it that Tebow got a penalty for doing a gator chomp...that's probably the first time that he's ever done something like that in his football career.
I know what you're thinking! I'm suppose to be for the Kentucky Wildcats - well, I just like the GATORS better!
Went out curbing last night before the game - nothing, however, I did see plenty of people in their driveways having GATOR parties. Firepits as well as barbecue grills were going - wonder if I could have joined some of them!
I miss you Caitie and Colin! Yes, Sara, I miss you too! I wish I would have gotten ALL 8 boxes of decorations out...oh well, maybe next year!
We had our Christmas dinner in Brooksville on December 20. 10 adults and 9 children (ages 10-9 months). That was fun - you didn't know which way to turn when the kids started opening their presents. Sara happened to get some of the wildness on video (you couldn't hear yourself think). We missed Shawn since he was working.
Sara, Caitie and I went to see The Nutcracker at The Opera House by The Lexington Ballet. Marie was danced by Chloe Obert who was one of Sara's previous students at The Lexington School and Caitie's babysitter. Chloe came out to see Caitie after her warm-up. Chloe gave her a tiara to wear during the performance while Caitie gave her a bouquet of flowers.
We had our family dinner on Christmas Eve (different since we had never done that) and then went to church at Immanuel Baptist.
Sara, Shawn, Caitie and Colin opened their presents Christmas morning, went to Shawn's dad's house for lunch, and then came over here to open presents. What a day they had!
Merry first Christmas Colin!

When's it going to be ready?

Here it is December 10 and the house is NOT decorated for Christmas!
Harry put the tree up December 4 - what does that tell you? I decided I needed draperies for the living room windows (I already had blinds) to give some color to the room (picked mauve of course) so he put them up yesterday. I started today - unwrapped all the ornaments (over 200 of them) and layed them out in categories (yeah, I know what you're thinking). Was working fine until I had to watch my soaps at 1:30 and 3...Bold and the Beautiful and Guiding Light...then went back to start again. I put some up, it was getting dusk, so I decided that I should get started wrapping presents. Got out the bows and the Christmas box that holds my empty boxes and ribbon, but they are still laying where I put them.
So, what am I doing right now besides writing this blog? Working on Family Tree Maker...you see, I'm behind on doing obits out of the Big Sandy News (newspaper in Louisa, Kentucky). 13 editions to be exact.
Gosh, I need to do Christmas cards!
Don't say a word, Sara!!!

What's with the title?

Mmmmm, glad you asked that question. My son-in-law, Shawn, came up with it.
You see, I'm one of those people that check out my neighbors' throw-a-ways...I don't get into the garbage can, if that's what you're thinking...I just check what's laying beside it. You never know what people are getting rid of these days. For example, I picked up a white wicker desk that is on my patio in Florida. Nothing was wrong with it, so I took it. Framed pictures, toys (don't tell my grandkids), glass items, outdoor chairs, etc. It doesn't matter to me if it's in Kentucky or Florida, I'm going to check out the night before the trash guy comes to the neighborhood.
Harry and Sara hate when I say "Curb alert - slow down". Caitie loves it...she's going to be like her Grammy!

A Brooksville Thanksgiving

First of all, let me say that I have always wanted to blog about my days, weeks, etc. but have been reluctant to try it. But now I'm here, rants, raves and all!!!
Our Thanksgiving tradition starts by watching the Macy's Parade (we normally leave in the middle of it) and then head to my husband's hometown of Brooksville, Kentucky to be with his family. My sister-in-law, Barbara, now hosts the gathering since the death of their parents. Dinner is always scheduled for 1 p.m., however, it never starts on time due to someone being late (Ryan and Carey this time) but that's okay because everyone is busy talking, taking pictures or whatever. Some of the kids were "creating" art pictures in the guest bedroom/craft room while some were downstairs playing pool and basketball - my granddaughter, Caitie, and her cousin, Georgia Kate, played beauty salon with Coy (that's another story.)
We had a great time (all 33 of us). Now not all of those are my immediate family, however, I love everyone of them since I've been in the family - and that's 34 years.
Stay with me - I'll get the hang of this! Thanks Sara (my beautiful, talented daughter) for helping me with one of my ongoing projects!
